ERC, Beaumont Hospital

The RCSI Education and Research Centre (ERC), Smurfit Building was first opened at Beaumont Hospital – the College’s principal teaching hospital – in 2000 and is home to the first academic Clinical Research Centre to be established in Ireland.

RCSI Medicine students from Intermediate and Senior Cycle spend a lot of time in the ERC, attached to general medical and surgical teams during clinical skills training and participating in research activities.

Upgrade to innovate

To improve the experience for our students, the College is currently in the process of upgrading facilities in Beaumont and adding a 30,000 sq. ft. three-story extension to the ERC.

RCSI has invested in the region of €11 million in the upgrading work, which will include a new student concourse with a fully-catered café; a series of large flexible multi-functional tutorial rooms with state-of-the-art AV facilities; open-plan faculty offices and meeting spaces; and new laboratory and research facilities, including a write up space for students.

The new facility will be completed in June 2018 ready for the new term in September 2018.
