About
Horizon: Executive Leadership Programme for Women in Healthcare is a transformative leadership development programme designed to support and empower women in healthcare to lead with purpose, confidence, and impact. Delivered through a blend of virtual live sessions and self-paced content, it combines evidence-based leadership strategies with personal reflection and practical tools.
Participants will explore topics such as proactively managing your career, understanding imposter syndrome, befriending your nervous system, setting healthy boundaries at work, leadership versus management, influencing, developing your network, building your personal boardroom, and navigating change. The programme is guided by expert facilitator Dr Claire Vallely and includes the creation of a personalised action plan.
Through enhanced self-awareness, connection, and community, this programme helps women chart a meaningful path forward in their leadership journey.

Course information
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:

- Demonstrate increased self-awareness, confidence, and emotional regulation in the face of challenge.
- Establish and maintain healthy boundaries to support resilience and sustainable leadership.
- Build influence and credibility through effective communication, networking, and relationship-building.
- Lead individuals and teams through complexity and change in healthcare settings.
- Create a strategic career action plan that supports long-term development and leadership impact.
Session 1: True North – Defining Leadership Purpose
This module helps participants explore what meaningful leadership looks like for them. Through reflection on personal values, leadership theories, and career alignment, learners begin to craft a leadership purpose and strategic plan grounded in authenticity and clarity.
Session 2: The Inner Compass – Understanding Self
Focusing on self-awareness and wellbeing, this module supports learners in identifying confidence barriers, addressing imposter syndrome, managing energy, and setting boundaries. It introduces tools for emotional regulation and personal resilience in leadership.
Session 3: Navigation Tools – Influencing and Building Relationships
Participants develop strategies to communicate with presence, build influence, and strengthen professional relationships. Topics include personal branding, developing a network, courageous conversations, and creating a ‘personal boardroom’ for support and challenge.
Session 4: The Map Forward – Leading Others and Navigating Change
This module focuses on the practical realities of leading teams and driving change in complex healthcare settings. Learners explore change models, leadership practices, and the human dynamics of transition to lead others with clarity and compassion.
Session 5: Integration – Reflection and Next Steps
Bringing it all together, this module creates space for personal reflection, celebration of progress, and sharing of action plans. Participants consolidate their learning and identify concrete steps to continue their leadership development journey.

To complete the course, participants are expected to attend the live sessions. Optional asynchronous content is available to deepen learning and engagement.
Participants will receive an RCSI certificate of completion. This is a non-credit-bearing course.
Admissions
This programme is for mid to senior level female leaders in healthcare with people leadership responsibilities, preparing for more senior roles, and who are committed to personal and professional development. No formal application review is needed. Once your application is submitted and your fee has been paid successfully, your seat will be confirmed on the course.
Teaching in RCSI is through the medium of English.
