Manaf Alqahtani

Professor Manaf Alqahtanii is a North American doubly-qualified adult infectious diseases and clinical microbiologist consultant at the Royal Medical Services of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), where he is currently the Head of Microbiology Lab and Chairperson of the Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.

Prof. Alqahtani is also the Associate Professor of Medicine and Principle Research Investigator at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain.

Prof. Alqahtani was elected as Vice-President of the Bahrain Medical Society in April 2016. In May 2016, he was nominated as President of Commission Disciplining Physicians National Health Regulatory Authority. In July 2017, he was awarded the First Class Medal of Competence by his Majesty King of Bahrain for his achievements in healthcare for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Following his medical degree in RCSI Dublin, Prof. Alqahtani trained and worked in both the United States and Canada. He holds a masters degree in Healthcare Management (MBA) from Tulane University, New Orleans, and is an active member of various professional societies such as the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), and the American College of Physicians (ACP).

To date, Prof. Alqahtani has won several awards for his contributions in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme and patient-centred care initiatives at BDF Hospital. He has also published several international papers focused on antimicrobial resistance and intervention strategies in preventing healthcare associated infections.
