Conferring Week 2015 celebrations get underway

The Conferring Week celebrations will get underway yesterday evening with more than 330 guests attending the 2015 Undergraduate Conferring Dinner. Among those invited were graduating medical students; Professor Declan Magee, President; Professor John Hyland, Vice-President; Professor Cathal Kelly, CEO/ Registrar; council members; senior management; RCSI academic and administration staff; consultants and clinical tutors.

A commemorative RCSI Class of 2015 video to congratulate the graduands and to inspire them on their career paths as RCSI alumni was unveiled at the dinner, which you can watch above.

A number of student awards and teaching awards were also presented at the dinner. Head of the School of Medicine, Professor Arnold Hill announced the student recipients of the Dan Kelly Memorial Medal and the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) Undergraduate Prize in Clinical Pharmacology. The President, Mr Declan Magee, presented the President's Teaching Awards followed by the 2015 RCSI NCHD Clinical Teaching Awards and Gleeson Teaching Award. The final award of the event was presented by the President of the Association of Graduates, Dr Mary Davin-Power announced Sami Backley student winner of the Gold Medal of the Association of Graduates.

There will be two separate Conferring Ceremonies taking place during the Conferring Week.

The Higher Degree Conferring Ceremony will take place at 5pm on Wednesday 3rd June in RCSI. 27 candidates will be conferred with degrees of Master in Pharmacy (MPharm), Master of Science (MSc), Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

On Thursday, 4 June, the School of Medicine conferring ceremony will take place at 4pm in the RDS. 282 candidates will be conferred with degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics (MB, BCh and BAO). Mark Pollock, explorer, adventurer and collaboration catalyst will be awarded an honorary doctorate degree from RCSI at the Ceremony.

The week's celebrations will conclude with the Graduation Ball in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Burlington Road.
