Erasmus opportunities

Erasmus+ is a European Commission-funded exchange programme which supports education and training opportunities for staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Europe. Erasmus+ funding is available for teaching, learning and traineeships and is a well-recognised programme of excellence.

Each of our Schools has a growing number of inter-institutional agreements with universities all over Europe (see our interactive map). The Erasmus, international electives and engagement teams are constantly seeking to connect with other universities to enhance our staff and student mobility opportunities and to facilitate visiting students.

Universities in partner countries (outside the 33 European programme countries) can participate in Erasmus+ under the International Credit Mobility (ICM) programme.

International Offices are invited to get in touch if you are interested in joining our network or would like to learn more. Our academic lead and Erasmus Officer, Dr Marc Sturrock is responsible for initiating and implementing our inter-institutional agreements.

If you are a student who would like to know more, please visit our Erasmus and exchange page or email erasmus@rcsi.ie.

About the programme

Ireland has been part of the Erasmus programme since its beginning in 1987. There has been significant changes to the programme over the years, for example, expansion to include exchange studies, traineeships and mobility for teachers and staff, but true collaboration and embracing multi-culturalism is always at the core of any mobility.

In order to participate in the Erasmus+ programme, each higher education institution located in a programme country must have an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). The ECHE provides the general quality framework for European and international cooperation in learning mobility of individuals and good practices under Erasmus+. If you would like to know more about the Erasmus programme, visit the European commission’s website.
