President's message

Welcome to the RCSI Bahrain website which I hope you will find informative and which should answer many of the questions you may have regarding RCSI Bahrain. You will find as you review our website that our University provides a vibrant blend of multicultural aspects, both seen academically and in student life, through clubs and societies. With different nationalities presented in the student body, a global outlook to education is one of the many positives here.

RCSI Bahrain has received external quality assurance, both through its links with RCSI Dublin and also from the Bahrain Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA). The last report by BQA placed the University in the top category regarding its level of achievement in terms of governance, management and teaching.

In December 2014, RCSI Bahrain's medical programme received accreditation from the Irish Medical Council. The University is also listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), UNESCO and in the Avicenna Directories of the World Health Organisation. It is also recognised by Jordan, Kuwait, UAE, UK, Canada, Oman Sri Lanka and California in the USA.

Throughout the first decade, results of the penultimate final examinations in Senior Cycle have indicated that our students perform as well as their counterparts in RCSI Dublin. Our interns are achieving a 100% pass rate in licensing exams conducted by Bahrain's National Health Regulatory Authority. This compares to an average national pass rate of 40%

Prospective students should consider RCSI Bahrain for their studies due to the high quality and standard of education. RCSI has a rich history. RCSI Dublin was established in 1784; therefore, we offer a combination of local and international experience in health education.

Career guidance is also important at RCSI Bahrain. Students are supported from when they attend orientation throughout their studies to help them with administration tasks, choosing a speciality, post graduate training and much more.

In order to support our students' academic achievements during their study and later after graduation, the University provides a wide range of services through the student affairs, student welfare, academic career offices and a Centre for Student Success. We also have an active community engagement programme, which includes overseas charity trips to Vietnam, Lesotho and India.

RCSI Bahrain and our stakeholders are committed to excellence in health education and we are all working as a team to achieve the University's Noble Purpose "Building on the heritage of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland which was founded in 1784, we will enhance health in Bahrain, the other GCC countries and beyond through endeavour, innovation and collaboration in education, research and service".

I thank you for your interest and for visiting the website - I look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you to RCSI Bahrain.

Professor Sameer Otoom MD, MS, PhD, CCPT, FRCP (Ireland)
