American Mission Hospital and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain welcome a new cohort to its expanding Internship Programme

  • General news

The American Mission Hospital (AMH) and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) -Medical University of Bahrain are proud to announce the successful expansion of its Internship Programme, which began last year with three pioneering candidates and has now grown to welcome 14 Bahraini graduates in its second year from local and international universities, reflecting the programme’s growing reputation and appeal both locally and abroad.

The AMH Internship Programme has quickly gained popularity due to its rigorous educational structure, strong clinical exposure and comprehensive training approach. Interns spend 50% of their rotation at AMH and 50% at the governmental hospitals, ensuring they receive broad-based clinical experience across diverse healthcare settings.

The programme is designed to closely monitor and evaluate interns while immersing them in an intensive educational curriculum. In addition to clinical rotations, interns must complete a series of required skills and competencies aimed at preparing them for professional licensure exams and future residency training.

Distinguished by its strong governance framework, the AMH Internship Programme is organised in collaboration with RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, ensuring alignment with international standards of medical education and training.

Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, commented: “As part of the longstanding partnership between RCSI Medical University of Bahrain and AMH, we are delighted to see the programme expand in its second year. Our goal is to nurture and equip future physicians with the clinical skills, knowledge and professionalism needed to thrive in residency training and strengthen their careers.  We look forward to further strengthening our joint initiatives with AMH in education, research and community service to better serve the Kingdom of Bahrain."

Admission to the AMH Internship Programme is highly selective and competitive. Candidates are evaluated based on three pillars: their academic performance, professional portfolio and performance during a structured interview. Last year, more than 200 applications were received, but only 14 candidates were selected, in line with the programme’s current capacity.

With its strong educational framework, international collaboration and competitive admission process, the AMH Internship Programme is poised to continue shaping the next generation of skilled and compassionate physicians.
