Oman's Ministry of Higher Education and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain Advance Strategic Partnership

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain welcomed on campus on October 15th a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MOHERI) of the Sultanate of Oman, led by Mr Hasan Al Zaabi, Assistant Director of the Licensing and Programme Supervision Department, alongside Mr Yousuf Alshabibi and Mr Mashal Al Hinai, Scholarship Affairs Researchers.

The visit followed the signing of a cooperation agreement in higher education and scholarships with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in the Sultanate of Oman, aimed at sponsoring Omani students to pursue medical studies at the University as part of a strategic partnership to train the next generation of Omani medical leaders.

During the visit, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, and Mr Stephen Harrison-Mirfield, Managing Director, presented an update on the educational developments and construction progress of the University’s new academic building.  An engaging discussion with members of the Omani medical student cohort was coordinated to gather feedback and explore requirements. A tour of the student accommodation arranged for Omani-sponsored students was offered to the delegation. 

With 28 Omani students currently enrolled, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to supporting MOHERI in strengthening the future of healthcare development in Oman.

Professor Sameer Otoom commented: “We are proud to host a distinguished delegation from the Sultanate of Oman as part of our shared mission to advance healthcare education and research. This collaboration reflects our joint vision to develop skilled healthcare professionals who can drive sustainable progress and improved patient care in Oman and beyond.”

Mr Hasan Al Zaabi expressed his appreciation for the visit, stating: “We are pleased to witness the excellent facilities and strong academic environment that RCSI Medical University of Bahrain offers our Omani medical students. Our continued collaboration ensures that they receive world-class medical education and training, contributing to Oman’s national aspirations for excellence in healthcare and medical sciences.”
