Advancing Public Health in Bahrain and Beyond

Supported by His Majesty the King and guided by the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Bahrain International Public Health Conference and Exhibition, organised by the Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health, took place on November 6th and 7th. The event gathered experts, specialists, and researchers from Bahrain and the GCC, with participation from the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and attendance by senior officials.

Dr Samya Bahram, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, highlighted that the conference addressed global health challenges and promoted collaboration among policymakers and researchers. The programme included over 50 lectures by 45 speakers and workshops on preventive health, health planning, global health security, and emerging technologies. 

Reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to advancing its healthcare sector, we congratulate our colleagues for their valuable contributions toward this important goal: 

Professor Ghufran Jassim, Associate Professor and Head of Family Medicine Department who presented her work on “Acting on the call towards elimination: Cervical cancer self-testing (CCST)”. Professor Jassim also contributed to the Scientific Committee and as a moderator 

Professor Manaf Alqahtani, Head of Microbiology Department, Infectious Diseases Consultant and Microbiologist at Royal Medical Services
, who participated as a speaker on “Clinical Practice Algorithm for Acute Respiratory Illness: Bahrain Experience” and contributed to the Advisory Committee  

Dr Sarah Barry, Director of Academic Programmes, Deputy Head of School, Education, School of Population Health, RCSI in Dublin, who delivered a presentation on “Why leading in public and population health matters: highlighting some knowns and exploring some unknowns”  

During the event, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain received a recognition on behalf of the University, reflecting our collective commitment to advancing public and population health across Bahrain and the wider region.
