Leading impactful research

RCSI is purposefully committed to solving the greatest challenges of modern healthcare. Our breakthroughs and insights enhance patient treatment and care.

Our students benefit from a research-driven education experience and our researchers are supported to maximise their contribution to healthcare.

Research centres of excellence

RCSI has significantly enhanced its research capability, competitiveness and impact through strategic investment in people and research infrastructure.

Relentlessly focussed on quality and impact, RCSI researchers are increasingly influential in their field. RCSI’s field-weighted citation impact is the highest in Ireland and twice the world average. Find out more.

RCSI is now developing research centres in areas of excellence and critical mass, focussed on clinical and patient-centred research.

ERC funding at RCSI

RCSI has the highest success rate in the EU Horizon 2020 of any Irish institution (28%).

Three RCSI researchers are recipients of significant European Research Council grants, leveraging that support to drive pioneering research on diabetic foot ulcers, psychotic experiences in young people and regeneration of articular cartilage.
