Why Dentistry at RCSI Dublin?

Our Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) offers a distinctive educational experience at a world-leading health sciences university. As an RCSI student, you will develop the clinical and communication skills needed to practise in complex healthcare environments and serve diverse populations.

The BDS is a five-year, full-time Undergraduate degree for students seeking a dynamic, clinically focused education. It is the first community-based dentistry programme in Ireland, combining advanced facilities, early patient contact and expert teaching to prepare you for a successful career.

Clinical teaching takes place in RCSI’s modern, purpose-built Dental Education Centres (DECs) in Dublin. These centres are designed for dental students to gain experience in a primary care community setting. The Simulated Dental Learning Environment (SDLE) features state-of-the-art models, equipment and patient simulators, allowing you to develop and consolidate your clinical skills before treating patients.

You will engage with local communities throughout the course, developing professionalism, social accountability and an understanding of different groups’ needs. Inter-professional engagement modules provide opportunities to work with disadvantaged communities and the wider healthcare team.

Our programme prepares you for a primary care dentistry career and supports further knowledge and skills development, including entry into dental specialist training.
