RCSI SIMposium

  • Date: 04 November 2022
  • Time: 09:00 - 18:00
  • Category: General events,  Leadership,  Research
  • Location: RCSI Albert Lecture Theatre, 123 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2

In this SIMposium we will bring together professional trainers from Higher Education institutions in a variety of sectors, including health professions, law, teacher training, social work, and emergency services.

Interprofessional communications skills are critical to professionals across sectors, such as healthcare, education, social work, and law.

These domains use experiential learning techniques to train communication skills, commonly referred to as simulation-based education.Simulation uses representations of real-life situations to allow individuals and teams to practice key skills with feedback before engaging with real patients or clients.

Simulation-based education is often delivered in professional silos, which limits cross sector dialogue and innovation, wastes valuable resources, and impedes the development of best practice for communication training. This often leads to professionals entering the workforce underprepared for their interprofessional work demands.

By exchanging evidence-based practice across sectors, we will discuss current approaches to simulation-based education and identify the areas to enhance this practice.

Through the SIMposium, we hope that participants will:

  • Develop connections – Build a network of collaborators experts both nationally and internationally from a wide range of diverse backgrounds in the area of communication training
  • Gain new knowledge – Learn from and about best practice approaches in the various sectors through immersive participatory experiential activities.
  • Share expertise – Take advantage of opportunities to share learnings and resources, and create opportunities for future collaboration.#

CPD points will be available for this event.

Please note: Full programme to follow; registration will open in due course.
