Open House at RCSI

  • Date: 20 October 2024
  • Time: 12:00 - 15:30
  • Category: Community,  General events
  • Location: RCSI Dublin 26 York Street, Dublin 2

Join us for a self-guided tour of 26 York Street; a state-of-the-art building that puts Ireland at the forefront of pioneering developments in the delivery of healthcare research and education.

Spread over ten floors, six above ground and four subterranean, the building respects the Georgian Dublin area that surrounds it.

As you enter 26 York Street you will be greeted by RCSI and Open House staff who will introduce you to the award-winning building, designed by leading architecture firm Henry J. Lyons. Collaboration was at the heart of this building's design: natural light floods in from the windows down through the atrium, revealing many areas for both quiet study and interaction with colleagues.

You will learn how sustainability, aesthetics and technology combine to provide the RCSI healthcare community with world-class training and education facilities right in the heart of Dublin city.

This year for the Open House, Festival of Architecture, RCSI 26 York Street has been shortlisted as a beacon of accessibility. We will open the doors of no 26 to members of the public who will be guided around RCSI’S state-of-the-art building by Henry J. Lyons architect, Maria Mulcahy and Open House volunteer Kevin Devine.

As well as tours for the general public, we will also offer tactile tours. As part of our commitment to access and widening participation these tours for the visually impaired will deepen our engagement with as many communities as possible.

3D models featuring elements of no 26 will be on display on the ground floor of the building. The 3D models have been developed with researcher, Tadhg Charles, and with the support of Vision Ireland.  Open House will coincide with the unveiling of our specially designed sensory room which will be opened on the day to members of the public, showcasing RCSI’s commitment to accessibility.
