Biomedical Research Medal at RCSI

The final of the 2008 Engineers Ireland Biomedical Research Medal was held this evening at RCSI.

This award is made annually by Engineers Ireland to a final year PhD student who has been judged by a select committee to be making a significant contribution to the field of biomedical engineering research.

This year, Matthew Haugh, a RCSI PhD student in the Department of Anatomy, was selected as one of this year’s finalists for his study on the ‘Development of a biological scaffold with mechanical and structural properties suitable for tissue engineering'.

The prize was won by David Hoey from TCD for his study on ‘The role of stress concentrations in the fatigue strength of a porous bone cement mantle'.
