RCSI welcomes over 400 new Fellows and Members at summer conferring ceremony

A group of Surgical Fellows celebrate their conferring at RCSI

RCSI welcomed 402 healthcare professionals into its global community of Fellows and Members at the July conferring ceremony which took place at the RCSI’s St Stephen’s Green campus.

Awards conferred included Fellowship and Memberships of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland; Vhi Fellowship in Urgent Care Medicine; Fellowships of the Faculty of Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists; and Fellowships, Memberships and Diplomas of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Addressing the candidates, RCSI President Professor Deborah McNamara said: “Throughout our 241-year history, RCSI Fellows, Members and Diplomates have a proud legacy of healthcare service and innovation across the world. Each of you has the potential to make a difference in the lives of many individuals as well as society at large. Especially in these turbulent times, each of us has the power to improve the world around us.”

During the ceremony, RCSI awarded an Honorary Fellowship to Professor Dato’ Dr April Roslani, Professor of Colorectal Surgery and former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya. The Honorary Fellowship of RCSI is the highest distinction the College bestows, recognising outstanding achievement in surgery and in other areas.

Professor Dato’ Dr Roslani founded Malaysia’s largest colorectal surgery unit, which is now a central resource to national colorectal training and services. She has played a leading role in shaping surgical training and is a key advocate for healthier medical environments.

The citation was read by Mr John Caird, RCSI Council Member, who applauded Professor Dato’ Dr Roslani for her extraordinary contributions to health and ongoing dedication to enhancing medical education and surgical training. Professor Dato’ Dr Roslani’s tireless work to actively champion equity, excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration in surgery makes her an inspiring is a role-model for surgeons in Malaysia and across the world.
