RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences has partnered with Workvivo by Zoom to launch FOLLÁINE which will be the first evidence-based workplace health and well-being programme to combine science from both positive psychology and lifestyle medicine.

The initiative, supported by Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Partnership Programme, brings together expertise from the RCSI Centre for Positive Health Sciences and Workvivo’s leading workplace platform in a collaboration that seeks to redefine how organisations support employee health and well-being.

Despite over €54 billion invested globally in workplace wellness initiatives, research shows most fail to improve employee well-being. FOLLÁINE aims to change this by providing science-informed, personalised and responsive interventions, tailored to employees’ individual needs and integrated directly into Workvivo’s workplace platform.

Professor Jolanta Burke from RCSI’s Centre for Positive Health Sciences is the Principal Investigator on the initiative: “This collaboration will lead to a breakthrough in how organisations can support their employees’ health and well-being. By embedding rigorous science and personalised interventions into workplace systems, we will set a new benchmark for effective, evidence-based well-being solutions.

“Unlike existing programmes, we are explicitly exploring and incorporating the interaction between psychological, emotional, social, and physical health to optimise outcomes at work,” added Prof. Burke.

Through the Workvivo platform, FOLLÁINE will deliver targeted strategies such as developing character strengths, boosting psychological safety, job crafting and enhancing connection between colleagues. Validated multidimensional assessments will incorporate novel well-being dimensions such as psychological richness, sense of coherence and the connection between mental and physical well-being.

With advanced customisation and real-time insights, FOLLÁINE will enable HR professionals and leaders to track well-being outcomes across teams, linking health improvements with organisational performance.

Professor Fergal O’Brien, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at RCSI said: “Through FOLLÁINE, we are building on RCSI’s commitment to advancing research that improves human health by applying it in the workplace context. This is an exciting opportunity to lead internationally in setting a new standard for workplace health grounded in science.”

Barry Holmes, HR Director at RCSI said that: “RCSI is proud to partner with Workvivo by Zoom on this groundbreaking research. RCSI was one of Workvivo's first clients when it was established in 2019, and it has greatly enhanced our employee engagement and positive culture. We believe that this partnership will build on this existing relationship and experience to support leadership and HR teams in developing evidence-based workplace well-being programmes which add strategic advantage.”

John Goulding, CEO of Workvivo by Zoom, said: “We are excited to partner with RCSI on this pioneering project. Together, we are creating a solution that not only measures well-being but also delivers tailored strategies to improve it. We are empowering organisations to build healthier, happier, and more productive workplaces.”

The partnership highlights Ireland’s leadership in workplace innovation, combining academic expertise with industry application to create scalable solutions with global relevance. FOLLÁINE is funded by the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme (€224,000) with co-funding from Workvivo by Zoom.
