This weekend saw more than 600 children, their families and teddies attend RCSI’s 12th Annual Teddy Bear Hospital.

For one special day each year, RCSI students turn their attention from medical discovery and clinical research to the area of teddy bear health.

The university’s Paediatric Society welcomes children aged four to 10 to bring their teddy bears for a check-up, ensuring any unwell or injured teddies are carefully treated and patched up.

The event offers a safe and fun space to explore healthcare and alleviate any fears children might have around attending doctor or hospital appointments.

At this year’s RCSI Teddy Bear Hospital, children were able to explore and learn across 16 different stations. Children and their teddies learned about different aspects of healthcare, such as surgery, X-ray, nutrition, first aid, mindfulness and dentistry.

A dedicated sensory room was also available for children who need a quiet space during the event. Saturday was a busy day, while the Sunday sessions were quieter and more inclusive for children who would benefit from a calmer environment.

The annual Teddy Bear Hospital is run by students, and they were available to chat to children and answer questions about doctors and medicine.

Hosted by the RCSI Paediatrics Society since 2015, the event has raised funds for various children’s charities across Ireland. This year, the society raised funds for Oscar's Kids Ireland. Oscar's Kids aims to support children and families through a cancer journey, gifting children a 'Magic Moments' experience.
