Paediatric Life Support

Summary

Suitable for: Interns, SHOs, registrars and SpRs from any specialty dealing with children.

The Paediatric Life Support (PLS) course equips healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to recognise, treat and stabilise children facing life-threatening emergencies.

Using a structured and sequential approach, participants will learn to address the unique needs of paediatric patients, including differences in weight, anatomy, physiology, and psychology.

This course emphasises a systematic focus on resuscitation, emergency treatment, continuous stabilization, and transfer to definitive care environments.

Through hands-on practice and assessment, participants will acquire and refine critical technical skills while also addressing human factors that contribute to the highest quality and safest healthcare delivery.

PLS provides a comprehensive framework for managing seriously ill or injured children, ensuring tailored and effective care in critical situations.

The course is certified and accredited by the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG), UK, and run by experienced faculty at Portiuncula University Hospital in Galway, facilitated by RCSI.

Course leads: Professor Regina Cooke, Mr Joe Fahy
