Masterclass in Resuscitation Simulation

Summary

Masterclass in Resuscitation Simulation is an advanced simulation course for healthcare professionals holding a current ACLS certification.

Using high-fidelity simulation and structured debriefing, participants will manage complex resuscitation scenarios where conventional ACLS algorithms must be modified to address the underlying pathology.

Through realistic cases including hypothermic cardiac arrest, refractory ventricular fibrillation, severe asthma, toxicological emergencies and ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, participants will develop advanced clinical decision-making, crisis resource management and leadership skills required to manage critically ill patients beyond standard resuscitation algorithms.

Suitable for: SHOs and registrars who work in emergency departments and are involved in resuscitation.

Learning outcomes

  • Apply advanced resuscitation strategies by recognising when conventional ACLS algorithms require modification and implementing evidence-based, pathology-specific interventions.
  • Demonstrate clinical decision-making and situational awareness during complex, time-critical emergencies through immersive simulation.
  • Integrate human factors principles, including leadership, communication, teamwork, task delegation, workload management and crisis resource management to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Identify and manage reversible causes of deterioration and cardiac arrest, applying advanced algorithms in challenging clinical scenarios such as hypothermia, refractory ventricular fibrillation, severe asthma, toxicological emergencies, and major haemorrhage.
