Advanced Endoscopy/Laparoscopy: Upper GI Emergency Management

Suitable for: Senior registrars in upper GI surgery and general surgery, who have experience in performing endoscopy and laparoscopy procedures

This is an advanced upper gastrointestinal (GI) emergency management course for experienced senior registrars. This interactive workshop will start with discussing the management of the unstable patient for both variceal and non-variceal bleeds.

In this course, experts will focus on the management of a perforated duodenal ulcer with both open and laparoscopic approaches. Practicals will include laparoscopic omental patch for perforated duodenal ulcer, an antrectomy and gastrojejunostomy. Hands-on practice will be aided by virtual reality simulators and animal bench models in a wet lab facility.

  • Improved insight into the use of endoscopic approaches in the treatment of upper GI bleeding
  • Understanding of decision-making around treatment of a perforated duodenal ulcer
  • Up-to-date knowledge of treatment methods for difficult upper GI ulcers
  • Hands-on simulated practice of principals and techniques used in bleeding ulcer disease

In this practical course we will use a combination of synthetic and animal tissue (porcine).
