I was born in South Africa and grew up in Canada, Ontario. Deciding to leave home to study at RCSI was an exciting and scary decision for me to make. I had travelled before but had never been away from home for more than a month at a time. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make friends, handle the work or survive without the support of my family.
At first it was tough to adjust to university life but with time I made friends and started organising my schedule in a way that worked for me.
Early patient contact has been my favourite aspect of the course, I can meet, talk to and engage with patients about their experiences with the healthcare system.
Every day I am excited to learn new things and continue my journey toward medicine.
