RCSI appoints new Surgical CPD Programme Lead

RCSI has announced the appointment of Mr Daragh Moneley as Surgical CPD Programme Lead.
Mr Moneley, a Consultant Vascular Surgeon in Beaumont Hospital, is the current Training Programme Director for Vascular Surgery in RCSI. He is also the chair the clinical governance group responsible for overseeing the Robotic Surgery Programme in RCSI Hospital Group.
Over the past seven years the RCSI CPD programme has grown from a small 32 course programme with 345 participants to the largest medical CPD programme in Ireland (and the UK) with over 134 courses delivered across various mediums to 1,200 participants each year.
The RCSI Surgical CPD Programme Lead is a new role. Mr Moneley will focus on incorporating the needs of the health service, specialties, aspiring surgeons an ultimately the patient into new CPD programmes. He will be supported in the role by 12 specialty advisors who will be nominated by the various specialty groups to help identify the ever-changing needs of each specialty as well as the non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) working in each specialty.
In his role, Mr Moneley will undertake an education needs analysis to identify the gaps in the education and skills needs of surgical NCHDs and the wider surgical workforce. He will liaise with specialty representatives to identify the education gaps for NCHDs in the specialty and then support them in the development and delivery of new specialty-specific courses to close these gaps.
He will also help develop and support the adjunct faculty who deliver these programmes to ensure the quality of the courses and that the stated learning objectives are met as well as supporting the recruitment and development of adjunct faculty for curriculum delivery.
