Summary
Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) is an effective, single-stage treatment for choledocholithiasis.
However, LCBDE requires specific cognitive and technical skills, is infrequently performed by surgeons in Ireland, and currently lacks suitable training and assessment modalities outside of the operating room.
To address this gap in training, a simulator model for transcystic and transcholedochal LCBDE will be used in the RCSI simulation lab.
This will work in tandem with LCBDE kits from Cook Medical for use by faculty and trainees on this course, to make the simulation as real-life as possible.
Suitable for: Senior registrars in hepatobiliary and general surgery, who have experience in performing laparoscopy procedures.
