Ultrasound-guided Regional Anaesthesia

Summary

This one-day course is designed to deliver standardised training on ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia techniques.

The course includes minimal didactic with maximal hands on practical scanning practice using task trainers and human models/simulated patients. You will understand indications for ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, requirements for monitoring, documentation and consent and how to recognise local anaesthetic systemic toxicity.

Additionally we will cover drug choice, dose and tips for reducing risk of local anaesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST).

Deliberate practice is maximised with small trainer to trainee ratios and you will practise needle tracking technique, image optimisation and practice of demonstrating the required sonoanatomy. No perquisite knowledge or skills are required.

  • Gain familiarity with upper limb (axillary), lower limb (fascia iliaca superior and inferior, PENG, femoral, popliteal) and chest wall fascial plane blocks (serratus anterior superficial and deep, erector spinae).
