Dr Eman Tawash, Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Deputy Head of the School of Nursing & Midwifery

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, experts from RCSI Medical University of Bahrain share their insights on prevention, innovation and supportive care—highlighting how multidisciplinary collaboration is crucial to enhancing patient outcomes in Bahrain.

Nurses play a pivotal role in breast cancer care, providing holistic and compassionate support throughout the patient journey.

Breast cancer education is embedded within the BSc (Hons) Nursing curriculum at RCSI Bahrain, ensuring that students gain the knowledge, clinical skills, and attitudes necessary for prevention, early detection, treatment and survivorship care.

Recent studies (D’Alessandro et al., 2025; Brown et al., 2021) show that nurse-led care enhances quality of life, alleviates anxiety and depression, reduces pain and fatigue and improves treatment adherence and self-management behaviours.

Professor Nasaif and Dr Tawash emphasised that by empowering nurses to lead patient-centred, family-focused initiatives, healthcare systems can significantly improve the experience and outcomes of patients affected by breast cancer.

A Collective Commitment

The University’s approach of uniting research, education, and clinical practice in the fight against breast cancer illustrates the power of a multi-disciplinary approach and Interprofessional intervention to improve health outcomes. Through partnerships with national healthcare bodies and community organisations, the University’s experts are shaping the future of prevention, diagnosis and breast cancer care in Bahrain and beyond.
