An Introduction to Human Trafficking for Health and Social Care Professionals

Summary

The aim of this programme is to support health and social care professionals to understand, recognise, and detect situations where they suspect or believe that an individual in their health or social care setting is a victim of human trafficking.

This programme is a three-hour online session for all health and social care professionals across the multidisciplinary team (including administrative teams). At the end of the session, there will be a group discussion where every attendee can share their experience and insights.

The programme will be delivered by national and international experts in the area of human trafficking.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the programme, the participant will be able to:

  • Define human trafficking within national, European and global contexts.
  • Identify different types of human trafficking and understand the differences between trafficking and smuggling.
  • Understand the impact of human trafficking on individuals and recognise indicators of trafficking.
  • Understand the proposed role of the national referral legislation in health and social care settings.
