RCSI MyHealth – Supporting Child and Youth Health this Winter

  • Date: 24 November 2020
  • Time: 18:30 - 20:00
  • Category: Community,  General events
  • Location: Online

Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, and following public health advice from the Irish Government, the RCSI MyHealth Series 2020/2021 will take place online only.

As a health sciences institution, we want to do our part in containing the spread of COVID-19 and ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our communities and all those working in healthcare. We at RCSI are committed to continuing public healthcare education and we are confident that the virtual RCSI MyHealth Series will prove highly informative.

Supporting Child and Youth Health this Winter

At a time when normal winter illnesses are most persistent, it will be important for parents to understand and recognise the difference between common respiratory symptoms and symptoms of COVID-19 in children.

Children get sick and cough a lot in winter, and pressure on parents will increase if children are excluded from school. Parents will have concerns about the impact this will have on children and young people’s mental health. The panel will discuss these issues and offer practical advice and guidance to parents of children and young people on how best to support their health and well-being this winter.

This panel discussion will be chaired by Professor Ciaran O’Boyle, Director of the RCSI Centre for Positive Psychology and Health.

Register your interest for this event – a link to the lecture will be shared in advance.

Panelists include:

  • Prof. Mary Cannon, Department of Psychiatry, RCSI
  • Prof. Jonathan Hourihane, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, RCSI and Consultant Paediatrician at Children’s Hospital Ireland in Temple St
  • Prof. Paul McNally, Associate Professor of Paediatrics, RCSI and Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin
