Brain Tumour Ireland Biobank

The Brain Tumour Ireland Biobank (BTB) was founded in 2016 by the Department of Physiology and Medical Physics, RCSI (Professor Jochen Prehn), the Neuropathology Department, Beaumont Hospital (Dr Alan Beausang, Dr Jane Cryan and Dr Francesca Brett), and the Neurosurgery Department, Beaumont Hospital (Mr Stephen McNally), with additional financial support of Brain Tumour Ireland (main funder) and the Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience (equipment support funder).

Patients undergoing brain tumour surgery have been given the opportunity to consent to have their tissue included in the biobank.

This biobank enables RCSI and Beaumont Hospital investigators, as well as other national and international investigators to carry out cutting edge research, identify novel biomarkers and develop novel therapies for the treatment of brain tumours.

Projects linked to the Brain Tumour Biobank include:

Dr Helena Bonner, CSM Liaison Officer, RCSI.

Dr Isabela Aparicio, Administration and Operations Manager.

Please note: If you are a principal investigator interested in submitting an application to participate in the Brain Tumour Biobank, please read the information booklet on submitting an application.
