Fees

How much to pay

The fee is €2,800 except where the fee is being paid directly to RCSI by a prospective employer who is entitled to a discount. In this case the fee is €2,500. The discount is only applicable at the point of application and will not be given retrospectively. As part of the TransferMate system, there is be a charge of €10 if the fee is paid in euro. If €2,500 is paid instead of €2,800, then the €300 balance will be required and this extra payment will also incur the €10 charge.

Each applicant must have an individual payment. The practice of having more than one applicant on the same payment (used by a very small number of prospective employers/agents) will no longer be accepted.

How to pay

A system called TransferMate is used. This system allows for a credit card or a debit card payment by the applicant (or family member/relation) using a personal credit card or a personal debit card. Anyone else paying the fee (such as the agent or prospective employer) cannot use a credit card or a debit card for payment as the system perceives that they will do so with a corporate credit card or a corporate debit card, which is not a supported by the TransferMate system. In such cases, payment is defaulted to Bank Transfer.

The Transfermate system allows international payments to be made via local banking networks where transfers can be made in sender’s own currency while receiving a preferential exchange rate. As payments are made locally, wire and receiver fees usually imposed by banks are eliminated. Payments are processed in 48 hours. This will mean that often you will make a payment to a bank in your region.

In order to pay the fee, you must have an eight-digit RCSI (ID) number – not the NMBI ID number. To get your eight-digit RCSI (ID) number, you need to do the following:

Complete an online application and upload three documents with your application –

  • Recent photograph
  • Biography/biometrics page of passport
  • NMBI decision letter

The name inputted on the application must be exactly as per NMBI decision letter.

Upon receipt of the application, an automatic response with the eight-digit RCSI (ID) number is sent. The application is reviewed and the outcome sent to the applicant, including the need to upload a specific receipt.

Using the eight-digit RCSI (ID) number –not the NMBI ID number – pay the fee. A receipt will be sent to the person who pays. The receipt that shows initial registration of your fees is not acceptable. Wait until you have the receipt that states 'Status authorised' before uploading and submitting. The top part of the correct receipt that you must upload will have the following information at the top of it:

TransferMate Global Payments – Transaction Payment Update

  • Order ID
  • Transaction ID
  • Status – Authorised. The payment has been completed successfully.

A further review takes place and if satisfactory an invitation for the test is sent.

Refund of fees

There is no automatic refund of unused fees, except where an applicant is unsuccessful at the second attempt at the theory test, in which case the portion of the fee for the practical test will be refunded (as such an applicant would not be eligible to take this part if they are unsuccessful at the theory test).

Administration charges for refunds

  • If a fee has been paid by agent/prospective employer and the fee is going to be used for another applicant and the request is made in writing before the test date: then the administration charge is 10%. The unused fee must be used within three months of the withdrawal or a further administration charge may be added.
  • If a fee has been paid by agent/prospective employer and the fee is not going to be used for another applicant or if the fee has been paid by someone else (applicant or other) then the administration charge will vary depending on when the application is withdrawn and the refund requested, as follows:
    – If withdrawn and refund requested 30 or more days before the allocated test date, then the administration charge will be: 10% of the fee paid.
    – If withdrawn and refund requested between 14 and 29 days before the allocated test date, then the administration charge will be: 15% of the fee paid.
    – If withdrawn and refund requested 13 days or less before the allocated test date, then the administration charge will be: 20% of the fee paid.
    – If there is a no-show or a response is not received to the booking confirmation by the due date then the administration charge will be: 20% of the fee paid.

Please note

An additional charge of €50 will be deducted for each test date postponement since application.

For the process to follow regarding refunds refer to changes to test status in the Apply section.

These administration charges are necessary because of:

  • The amount of additional resource implications including staff time involved in administration and processing.
  • The necessary communication and follow-up required by the Aptitude Test manager.
  • Not being able to ascertain, despite several endeavours to communicate/follow-up, if an applicant is coming to a test.
  • The late reply that an applicant is withdrawing that often results in it being too late to offer the place to someone else which significantly impacts on workforce planning.
  • Late application for a refund concurrently with information gaps including missing details.
