Researcher of the Year Award
To be offered to a graduate who has demonstrated excellence in research quality (dependent on various research bibliometrics).
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
- The candidate must be a graduate of RCSI Bahrain.
- The candidate must be in good standing with the University.
- It is preferred that the graduate have a record of research activity and involvement before graduation.
- List of publications must be provided, and certain metrics must be assessed such as quartiles of journal and citation impact.
- Research linked to RCSI Bahrain or separately.
- List of awards demonstrating excellence in research must be provided (if applicable).
Condition: Alumni Can Apply for this Award More than Once.
Nominations – January to February.
Alumni Awards Committee meeting and final decision in February/March.
Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist, Heart Failure Director and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in the United States. Dr. Alalwan completed Internal Medicine residency and specialist Cardiology training in Michigan, followed by an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital. He holds multiple American board and cardiovascular imaging certifications and previously served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. An active clinical researcher, he has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and conference presentations across cardiovascular medicine, advanced imaging, heart failure and structural heart disease.
General Surgery specialist and researcher with advanced expertise in upper gastrointestinal surgery, surgical oncology and gastro-oesophageal cancer. Dr. Alazzawi earned a Master’s in Surgery and Research from RCSI Dublin and an MD focused on Gastric and Oesophageal Cancer through RCSI and Dublin City University. His clinical training spans Bahrain and Ireland, including surgical registrar and specialist registrar roles across general, breast, colorectal and upper gastrointestinal surgery. A prolific researcher and clinical educator, he has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, international collaborative studies and conference presentations, with several first-author papers and authorship of the Upper GI Surgery chapter in the RCSI Handbook of Clinical Surgery for Finals.
