Cameron Scholars Programme
The Cameron Scholars Programme was established in the School of Population Health in 2023 to develop innovative courses in population health science and application, and to grow the research profile of the School.
Named in honour of one of RCSI’s greatest population health innovators, Sir Charles Cameron, the Programme has already delivered the new MSc in Population Health Leadership.
Research highlights include new funding to explore digital technologies for healthy diets, women’s health, stroke research, prevention and knowledge translation, equity in workforce and dementia care.
As a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, Cameron Scholars continue to grow the impact of the School of Population Health by making strategic, opportunistic and flexible contributions – playing to our strengths and building intersections. Plans for further growth include ecosystemic approaches, equity and implementation – with a focus on definition clarity and other resources to ensure evidence connects for better understanding, decision making and action.

The Cameron Scholars team lead the successful MSc in Population Health Leadership in RCSI. Launched in 2024, the programme equips leaders to understand, decide and act to improve population health. Integral to the MSc is the appraisal, synthesis and application of the core population health principles, methods and applied leadership skills set out in the WHO-ASPHER Core Competency Framework for the Public Health Workforce.
The teaching approach used focuses on developing students’ abilities to leverage critical understanding, decision-making, and applied actions to inform policy, systems design and practices for positive population health outcomes.
The Cameron Scholars team have a diverse range of expertise in a variety of health-related domains with existing research projects including topics such as health systems, health policy, health equity, epidemiological modelling, health behaviours and behaviour change, quality of life assessment, maternal health, nutrition, dietetics, speech and language therapy, digital health, obesity, dementia, and complex intervention development and implementation.
The Cameron Scholars team makes a key contribution to RCSI’s research activities, with a growing reputation for population health research and women’s health research.
Some of the previous and ongoing research from the Cameron Scholars include:
