Heritage Collections, Mercer Building

RCSI Heritage Collection’s collects, catalogues, conserves and curates heritage material relating to the history and development of RCSI and of Irish medicine. We ensure its availability to the public and the promotion of scholarly study and research.

Among our collections are RCSI’s institutional archival records, personal archive collections, pamphlets, antiquarian books, medical instruments, photographs, portraits and ephemera.

Location

RCSI Heritage Collections Widdess Reading Room is located on the third floor of the Mercer Building, Mercer Street Lower, Dublin 2. Access is via the RCSI entrance on Noel Purcell Walk.

At the gates, ring the bell for security and identify yourself as a visitor to Heritage Collections. When inside, proceed to the Mercer Building where security will welcome you in the reception.

Access

Material held by RCSI Heritage Collections may be consulted in the Widdess Reading Room by prior appointment only. Please contact the archivist to arrange your research visit.

First-time researchers must complete and return a reader registration form, accompanied by a valid form of identification. Prior to any visit, researchers should be aware of Heritage Collections’ conditions of use.
