Fulbright Ireland-USA

RCSI and Fulbright share common and fundamental interests in the advancement of research and the dissemination of knowledge. 

The RCSI-Fulbright StAR PhD programme enables US citizens who are resident in the US to complete a fully funded PhD at RCSI over a period of four years.

The minimum programme duration is for 48 months: the Fulbright Award is for the first 12 months, with RCSI providing fee waivers and funding for years 2, 3 and 4 of the programmme.

Prospective fellows interested in these PhD awards must identify a potential RCSI supervisor before beginning the application process.

Eligibility

  • Must be a holder of an honours bachelor degree, grade 2.1 or above, or a master’s degree from a recognised college in a relevant discipline – applicants may use the grade point average (GPA) calculator to determine equivalency.
  • Dual citizens of Ireland are eligible
  • Residency for 12 months in Ireland is not permitted in year prior to grant

You must identify a potential RCSI supervisor in your area of expertise, and contact them directly to see if they are willing to support the project and application. You can find a list of RCSI supervisors here.

The RCSI supervisor must send a copy of your CV and a letter of support to the RCSI's School of Postgraduate Studies. If approved by the School of Postgraduate Studies, you will be issued with a letter of support that you should upload to the ‘Letter of Affiliation’ section when submitting the official application via the Fulbright-RCSI webpage here.

The Fulbright Ireland-USA Student competition for 2025-2026 will launch on Tuesday, April 2 2024, and the deadline for submission of applications will be Tuesday, October 8 2024 at 5 pm Eastern Time.
