Bon Secours Hospital Limerick
Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, which opened its doors in September 2025, is the first new acute hospital to open in Ireland in almost two decades.
The €213 million project is one of the largest healthcare investments ever made in the region, transforming healthcare capacity in the Mid West and provides patients with greater access to a wide range of specialties, including cardiology, ophthalmology, endoscopy, vascular services and advanced diagnostic imaging.
Bon Secours Health System, Ireland’s largest private hospital group, is a not-for-profit organisation with its mission centred on providing compassionate medical treatment to all those it serves. With more than 4,000 staff and 500 leading consultants, Bon Secours treats more than 450,000 patients annually in its five modern acute hospitals in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Tralee and Dublin. It also has a care village in Cork, and a clinic in Cavan.
Bon Secours Hospital Limerick operates with over 95 inpatient beds and has more than 100 consultants privileged to practise, providing planned inpatient, day case and outpatient diagnostic, medical and surgical services.
Clinical activity is supported by modern radiology, laboratory and pharmacy services, alongside physiotherapy and a range of health and social care professional supports. Dedicated access pathways, including a hospital access unit, facilitate timely assessment and treatment within a structured consultant led model of care.
The hospital works in close partnership with its consultant medical staff and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective and high-quality care. A strong culture of professionalism, respect and continuous improvement underpins clinical practice, education and service development within the organisation.
Participation in the StAR MD programme reflects the hospital’s commitment to supporting postgraduate medical education, academic development and the training of doctors on a career trajectory towards consultant level, while contributing to the advancement of evidence-based clinical practice.
