E-learning translation
We are committed to making surgical education accessible to learners worldwide.
As much of today’s surgical e-learning is produced in English, many trainees face barriers to engaging fully with educational resources. To address this, we work to make high-quality learning materials available in multiple languages. We translate English-language course content so that it can be used by learners in French, Portuguese, and Spanish-speaking regions. In addition, we collaborate with other organisations to support the translation and wider dissemination of their educational materials, for example on SURGhub.
We developed a structured translation process that is time and cost efficient and ensures high-quality results. Courses are first translated using an artificial intelligence translation tool. The translated material is then reviewed by non-expert reviewers, for example, native-speaking medical students, who assess it for clarity and coherence. Expert reviewers from partner organisations subsequently validate the technical accuracy and ensure the material is contextually appropriate.
Finally, instructional designers integrate the refined translations into the courses. This means, with every course translated, more learners receive high-quality, accessible educational experiences in their own languages.
We encourage RCSI students who are native speakers of French, Spanish, or Portuguese to get in touch if you’re interested in volunteering to help translate content.
