I was one of the first graduates from RCSI’s new BSc in Advanced Therapeutic Technologies. I chose BSc Advanced Therapeutic Technologies (BScATT) because it is future-focused and more specialised than a general science degree. The course has equipped me with a skill set that many new graduates do not have, including subjects such as regulatory affairs and project management. This degree has given my class the opportunity to develop our creative sides and engage with abstract ideas and complex problems for which a solution does not already exist.

I had the opportunity to learn from excellent guest speakers from industry, which I found highly motivating. The placements and site visits also helped to keep the course engaging and gave me valuable insights into the pharmaceutical sector. While I found the academic side challenging at times, the benefits far outweighed any difficulties. I was part of a fantastic cohort, made a wonderful group of friends and overall it has been an excellent experience.

One of the key strengths of the course was how well it prepared me to work as part of a team. During my third-year placement, I had the opportunity to work cross-functionally between two teams at the global biopharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb. The curriculum is broad and I believe that is one of its standout features. During my placement, my managers recognised the breadth of skills and knowledge I had developed through the programme.

Following my degree, I would like to pursue a career in a quality assurance disposition role within the pharmaceutical industry.
