I had heard great things about the facilities at RCSI and the opportunities that come along with studying there while working in different areas of healthcare, so when I applied to change course in 2022 RCSI was at the top of my list.
After moving back to Ireland from living abroad, I decided that I wanted to move to Dublin and could not recommend it enough. There are constantly things to do, places to go and people to meet. Especially with the friends that you make in RCSI you’ll start to feel at home almost immediately. With our campus being so central as well, it is so easy to go and see new things, try new food and even meet up with people for coffee while on breaks between lectures.
My favourite modules so far would have to be our Medicines – Pharmaceutics modules. Having the opportunity to practice what we learn in lectures during the week in our labs give us such a good understanding of the logistics behind what we are studying. The hands-on nature not only better prepares us for exams but also equips us with the information we need to succeed in the working world or further studies.
In five years’ time I see myself still studying and working in the healthcare industry and living in Dublin. At the moment, I’m looking at the MSc in Physician Associate Studies which RCSI offers but am keeping my options very much open.
My one piece of advice for new students is to put yourself out there. The people in RCSI are the most amazing part and we all rely on and support each other whenever needed. From living, studying and socialising with everyone it is so easy to make close friends, which is especially important if it is your first time living away from home.
I’m lucky to say that I have made some of my best friends in RCSI and in such a short space of time have built relationships that I couldn’t imagine my life without, so put yourself out there the best you can because everybody’s in the same situation.
