I always wanted to have a career in healthcare, and I grew up playing sports where there was a physio at most games. I always thought it was really interesting how versatile their job was, from taping joints before games to working under pressure to assess an injured player on the pitch. I’ve also had my fair share of sports injuries over the years, and without the help of my physio it would have been much harder to get through them. I think this exposure really helped me choose Physiotherapy as my course.
My favourite subject so far has been The NMSK modules in Physio 1. They were really enjoyable, particularly the practical classes. The sessions in the movement lab allowed us to practise our manual skills in a fun and open environment!
Captaining the RCSI Ladies’ rugby team in second year has been a highlight of my time in RCSI– we played in the SSI university league for the first time in many years, and we had our first ever win over Sorbonne university in the annual match that we play against them. We also went to Cork to watch the Irish ladies team play England in the six nations and had a great night!
I’m not 100% sure yet on my career after graduating. In secondary school, it was always to be a physiotherapist in a high-level sports set-up like the IRFU. Since coming into RCSI, I have had more exposure to areas outside of sports physio, so I’m keeping an open mid for now!
